Manually released dry chemical powder system protecting the cargo tank deck and manifolds of a gas carrier. Two independent centrals each hold powder in a pressure vessel at atmospheric pressure, nitrogen expellant cylinders with regulators, a pneumatically operated main valve and selector valves for the monitors and hose stations. Two monitors cover the cargo manifold; hose stations with 33 m non-kink hoses and powder pistols cover every point on deck from either central. The file covers system description and operation, calculations, data sheets, installation and test procedures and maintenance instructions for monitors, hose reels and centrals.

Releasing from a monitor
- Before each loading/discharging, aim the monitors at the manifold in use. s. 4
- Open the release cabinet door, open the control cylinder top valve, then the release valve. s. 4
- Nitrogen pressurises the powder tank; at about 11 bar the main valve opens and powder flows; the monitor cap pops off. s. 4
Releasing from a hose station
- Pull out the hose with pistol close to the fire first. s. 4
- Open the cylinder top valve, then the release valve; wait for pressure (about 11 bar) and discharge. s. 4Take a firm stand — recoil is possible
