Atlas Copco CD 25+…260+

Adsorptive air dryer (cold regeneration)

Adsorptive compressed air dryer Atlas Copco CD+ series, non‑heated: two columns with adsorbent (activated aluminum oxide) operate alternately — one dries the air, the second is regenerated by a portion of the dried air through a nozzle. Controlled by DC1 controller or graphical Elektronikon (optionally with PDP dew‑point sensor). Manual includes: device and flow diagram, controller menus, installation, commissioning, start/stop, maintenance schedule, nozzle replacement, fault finding and technical data.

Maintenance procedures

Initial start (or after prolonged shutdown / adsorbent replacement)

  1. If a bypass exists – open dryer bypass valves. p. 76
  2. Shut off air supply to PDP sensor (if installed). p. 76
  3. Close external inlet valve from compressor to dryer and the outlet valve. p. 76
  4. Remove silencers to prevent adsorbent dust blockage; wear respirator, goggles and hearing protection. p. 76
Only during initial start or after adsorbent replacement
  5. Start compressor, wait for pressure, slowly open inlet valve. p. 76
  6. Inspect dryer connections for leaks and rectify. p. 76
  7. Activate dryer with Start button on controller. p. 76
  8. Run for several hours with outlet valve closed, then reinstall silencers. p. 76
  9. Gradually open external outlet valve, close bypass, open supply to PDP sensor. p. 76
For dew‑point −70 °C, reaching operating mode may take more than 10 days.

Normal start

  1. Close external inlet valve and air supply to PDP sensor. p. 76
  2. Close external outlet valve to consumer. p. 76
  3. Start compressor and slowly open inlet valve. p. 76
  4. Turn on the dryer, slowly open the outlet valve. p. 76
  5. Close the bypass (if present) and open the supply to the PDP sensor. p. 77
When restarting the compressor, close the inlet valve — high air velocity at start destroys the adsorbent.

Stop

  1. Open the bypass if needed so the consumer receives air. p. 77
  2. Close the external inlet and outlet valves. p. 77
  3. Let the dryer run without flow to vent pressure in the columns. p. 77
  4. Turn off the dryer. p. 77
Do not pass compressed air through the dryer with power off — the adsorbent will be irreversibly damaged.

Regeneration nozzle replacement

  1. Stop the dryer with the Stop button, isolate all pressure sources and bleed the pressure. p. 78
  2. Open the top panel — nozzles are located on the upper manifold. p. 79
  3. Release the spline fittings on the brackets and remove the nozzle assembly with its couplings and tubing. p. 79
  4. Select a new nozzle based on working pressure according to the recommendation table. p. 79
  5. Install the assembly back into the corner fittings. p. 79
  6. Store spare nozzles in the bag inside the unit. p. 79
